PLC Days

Professional Learning Community (PLC) Late Start Days

Again next school year, all LPS schools will have 10 Late Start Wednesdays where staff come together to look at classroom data and the individual needs of students. On these Late Start Days, the school day at Peabody begins at 10:31 a.m. for all grades except preschool which remains on a traditional day schedule.

These three additional hours from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. allow staff to collaborate in whole staff teams, vertical teams, and grade level teams to assess students' needs in literacy, math, science, and social studies. Our physical education, art education, and music education teachers utilize this time to meet in like group PLCs with their elementary colleagues across the district on essential learnings and best assessment practices in their subject areas.

Children cannot be at school before 10:20 a.m. on a Late Start Day unless they are enrolled in our Panther Pride Club. Please contact Mary Lloyd, director at 303.347.4635 if you are in need of child care. Buses run on a Late Start schedule - simply two hours later than a typical school day. Our half-day kindergarten program runs as follows on Late Start Days:

Kindergarten AM: 10:36 a.m. - 12:32 p.m.
Kindergarten PM:  1:17 p.m. - 3:13 p.m.

Our next Late Start Day is Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

Recommended Math Materials

The committee for the review and recommendation of math materials have completed their review and selected materials to recommend to the Board of Education for elementary mathematics.  Bridges with Number Corner from the Math Learning Center will be recommended for kindergarten through fifth grades.  These resources provide the rigor and relevance we have come to expect for students in Littleton Public Schools.  Materials will be on display in the foyer of the Boardroom at the Education Services Center (5776 S. Crocker St. Littleton) from March 30th through April 13th.  A community open house will be held on April 1st from 4 to 6:00 pm during which the math specialist Ann Summers will be available to answer questions.  The recommendations will go to the Board for discussion on April 9th.

Important Update on the Measles

Our administration is very concerned about the risk of measles in our school community in light of the current and expanding measles outbreak, which has already impacted Colorado with one case occurring following an exposure in Disneyland. Measles is extremely contagious and can cause serious illness including hospitalization, pneumonia, or brain infection, especially among those persons with weakened immune systems.

We are requesting that you check your child’s immunization record to assure your child has received two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. Vaccination is the only way to protect yourself from infection. Ninety percent of people who are not immune to measles and come in contact with a measles case will become sick and then spread the illness to others.  If you have questions or concerns about measles or MMR vaccine, or you would like the health department to review your child’s vaccine record in the Colorado Immunization Information Registry to see if they have received the vaccine, please contact the Tri-County Health Department Immunization Program at 303-451-0123. Vaccines are also available at the health department for people who do not have insurance or whose health insurance does not cover vaccines, or for families on Medicaid and CHP+ insurance.
