PLC Days

Professional Learning Community (PLC) Late Start Days

Again next school year, all LPS schools will have 10 Late Start Wednesdays where staff come together to look at classroom data and the individual needs of students. On these Late Start Days, the school day at Peabody begins at 10:31 a.m. for all grades except preschool which remains on a traditional day schedule.

These three additional hours from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. allow staff to collaborate in whole staff teams, vertical teams, and grade level teams to assess students' needs in literacy, math, science, and social studies. Our physical education, art education, and music education teachers utilize this time to meet in like group PLCs with their elementary colleagues across the district on essential learnings and best assessment practices in their subject areas.

Children cannot be at school before 10:20 a.m. on a Late Start Day unless they are enrolled in our Panther Pride Club. Please contact Mary Lloyd, director at 303.347.4635 if you are in need of child care. Buses run on a Late Start schedule - simply two hours later than a typical school day. Our half-day kindergarten program runs as follows on Late Start Days:

Kindergarten AM: 10:36 a.m. - 12:32 p.m.
Kindergarten PM:  1:17 p.m. - 3:13 p.m.

Our next Late Start Day is Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

School Safety

School Safety at Peabody Elementary

Littleton Public Schools provides an extremely high standard for security in all our schools. At Peabody, we take your child's safety as our number one priority to enable maximum learning. Below is a link for three articles on how to talk with your child about school violence and school safety. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Information for Parents ~

The Peabody Accountability Committee is excited to offer a series of parent information sessions throughout this school year!  Please mark your calendar for the first session in this series on November 18th from 7:00-7:30.

All Peabody parents are invited to an evening with fellow parents and staff from Littleton Public Schools to share ideas and resources on cyber safety.  We'll discuss technologies and strategies around raising children in the 21st Century.  Come with questions and examples of practices that work in your house.

This will be a great opportunity to ask the LPS District Technology Team questions related to keeping our children safe and productive while they play, learn and socialize using technology!

Please read the information in the document below regarding Enterovirus 68.

Dear Peabody Families –

We hope everyone enjoyed their summer break :) Don't forget, all families must visit your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to complete the 2014-2015 Annual Family Check-in before Friday, August 29th. This online data collection replaces the permission forms and emergency cards previously collected at the start of the school year. It is imperative that this student data is accurate so we may reach you in case of accident, illness or emergency.

•Website address http://LPS2.it/portal

•From portal home page open "Inbox" to view messages

•Select "2014-2015 Annual Family Check-In"

•Review all your information and make additions or changes as needed

•Submit your registration to record the changes (it must be submitted before it can be processed by our office)

•Elementary schools, middle schools and high schools can all view these changes so it is only necessary to use this link once to update all students in your household.

Please email Lori Beckman at lbeckman@lps.k12.co.us if you have any problems with your portal access or your family check-in page. If you have a student moving on to 6th grade you will need to contact your middle school for technical support. Thank you in advance for updating your information.

Important News

Flu season is just around the corner in Colorado! There is no way to predict in advance how severe flu activity will be so prevention is the best strategy to stay healthy. The single best way to avoid getting influenza is to get vaccinated each year. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons aged 6 months and older, who do not have a contraindication to the vaccine. Most health insurance companies (including Medicaid) cover the cost of getting a flu vaccine so families with health insurance can go to your in-network health care provider to receive a vaccine at no cost.  Many pharmacies will bill your insurance and not charge a fee for flu vaccine (check with your local pharmacy). If you are uninsured, or your insurance won’t cover vaccines, or you have Medicaid or Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), you can call Tri-County Health Department at 303-451-0123 to be vaccinated in one of their clinics. You can also visithttp://flushot.healthmap.org/ to find flu shot clinics near you.
