PLC Days

Professional Learning Community (PLC) Late Start Days

Again next school year, all LPS schools will have 10 Late Start Wednesdays where staff come together to look at classroom data and the individual needs of students. On these Late Start Days, the school day at Peabody begins at 10:31 a.m. for all grades except preschool which remains on a traditional day schedule.

These three additional hours from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. allow staff to collaborate in whole staff teams, vertical teams, and grade level teams to assess students' needs in literacy, math, science, and social studies. Our physical education, art education, and music education teachers utilize this time to meet in like group PLCs with their elementary colleagues across the district on essential learnings and best assessment practices in their subject areas.

Children cannot be at school before 10:20 a.m. on a Late Start Day unless they are enrolled in our Panther Pride Club. Please contact Mary Lloyd, director at 303.347.4635 if you are in need of child care. Buses run on a Late Start schedule - simply two hours later than a typical school day. Our half-day kindergarten program runs as follows on Late Start Days:

Kindergarten AM: 10:36 a.m. - 12:32 p.m.
Kindergarten PM:  1:17 p.m. - 3:13 p.m.

Our next Late Start Day is Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

2015-16 Kindergarten Registration Information

 Dear Peabody families,

We want to remind everyone that Kindergarten Registration for 2015-2016 begins on Monday, February 2nd (7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and continues on Tuesday, February 3rd (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) here at Peabody.  Pre School Registration is Tuesday, February 3rd (7:00am – 4:00pm).  If your child, a friend or neighbor’s child is 5 years old by October 1, 2015, they are eligible for entry into kindergarten in August of 2015.  We have several options for kindergarten here at Peabody:

Traditional AM or PM – no cost

Full Day tuition based kindergarten - $375.00 per month

Child care for AM kindergarten only in our afternoon K+ program - $15.00 per day (2 to 5 days per week)

We also provide child care before school in our Panther Pride Club - $9.00 per day and after school child care at $10.00 per day.  We have full day child care for non-student days and during the summer at a cost of $32.00 (include snacks, field trips and any special events).

Please know that if you are not certain about sending your children with summer birthdays or beyond to kindergarten this next year, we would prefer you register now and then make a final decision as late as August 1st.  Our staffing dollars for next school year are dependent on our enrollment numbers at registration times.

We are blessed to have caring teachers and paraprofessionals who have high standards for learning both academic as well as social emotional for your child.  Please join us on Thursday, January 22nd from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for our Kindergarten and Preschool Information Night starting in the Peabody Library and moving to casual conversations with the kindergarten staff and our principal in our kindergarten classrooms.  We look forward to sharing all the wonderful opportunities for families and children with the Peabody school community.

And as a reminder – all open enrollment forms for the 2015-16 school year are due on January 31st.  All open enrollment information and forms can be found here.

Important News

Flu season is just around the corner in Colorado! There is no way to predict in advance how severe flu activity will be so prevention is the best strategy to stay healthy. The single best way to avoid getting influenza is to get vaccinated each year. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons aged 6 months and older, who do not have a contraindication to the vaccine. Most health insurance companies (including Medicaid) cover the cost of getting a flu vaccine so families with health insurance can go to your in-network health care provider to receive a vaccine at no cost.  Many pharmacies will bill your insurance and not charge a fee for flu vaccine (check with your local pharmacy). If you are uninsured, or your insurance won’t cover vaccines, or you have Medicaid or Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), you can call Tri-County Health Department at 303-451-0123 to be vaccinated in one of their clinics. You can also visithttp://flushot.healthmap.org/ to find flu shot clinics near you.
