Peabody Awarded Grant for Playground Design

We are pleased to announce that Peabody Elementary is a recipient of a grant from Tri-County Health to work with the University Of Colorado-Denver, School Of Architecture to redesign our existing playground space. The redesign may include an outdoor learning space and a school garden. A community meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 7th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with the design group for community input. We encourage all interested parents to attend along with community members who utilize our playground. We have a community focus group organized who will meet with the architects prior to the community meeting. This group is made up of staff and parent representatives.
Littleton Public Schools Recognition

LPS has been awarded the highest accreditation category in Colorado, "Accredited with Distinction" and is the only school district in the Denver metro area to recieve this level of accreditation.  This Colorado Department of Education designation puts LPS in the top 8 percent of all school districts in the state...a total of only 14 school districts were given this distinction.  Additionally, the LPS Board of Education has been named the 2010 All-State School Board by the Colorado Association of School Boards.  Our children are being educated in the finest school district in the state and Peabody students have certainly contributed to these district rankings!

5280 Magazine Recognizes Peabody Elementary in the top 40 elementary schools in the Denver metro area!

In the September issue of 5280 Magazine, Peabody is recognized as one of the top 40 public and private elementary schools in the Denver metro area.  This recognition is based on 2009 CSAP and the Colorado Growth Model.  In other words, this recognizes our efforts to help students "catch up, keep up or surpass" their expected grade levels.  Congratulations to students, parents, teachers and support staff!  This is quite an honor to be recognized in this publication. Keep up your awesome job of learning!

Professional Learning Community (PLC) Late Start Days

Again next school year all LPS schools will have 10 Late Start Wednesdays where staff come together to look at classroom data and the individual needs of students.  On these Late Start Days the school day at Peabody begins at 10:31 a.m. for all grades except preschool which remains on a traditional day schedule.

These three additional hours from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. allow staff to collaborate in whole staff teams, vertical teams and grade level teams to assess students needs in literacy, math, science and social studies.  Our physical education, art education and music education teachers utilize this time to meet in like group PLC's with their elementary colleagues across the district on essential learnings and best assessment practices in their subject areas.

Children cannot be at school before 10:20 a.m. on a Late Start Day unless they are enrolled in our Panther Pride Club.  Please contact Mary Lloyd, director at 303.347.4635 if you are in need of child care.  Buses run on a Late Start schedule - simply two hours later than a typical school day.   Our half day kindergarten program runs as follows on Late Start Days:

Kindergarten AM: 10:36 a.m. - 12:32 p.m.
Kindergarten PM:  1:17 p.m. - 3:13 p.m.

Our next Late Start Day is Wednesday, February 1st
